People in southwestern Pennsylvania took in the breathtaking scenery that comes with the Northern Lights. Viewers from Allegheny, Washington, Armstrong, Beaver, Greene and Butler counties sent in photos of the amazing scenery.

People in southwestern Pennsylvania saw the aurora borealis on Friday due to the largest geomagnetic storm in 21 years. The skies were clear so onlookers could see the lights.
Several coronal mass ejections (CMEs), also known as “solar flares”, have exploded in the Sun’s upper atmosphere. This sends charged particles toward Earth. When these particles interact with the atmosphere, auroras occur.
CBS News reported that radio transmissions and satellite navigation may have been disrupted during the event.
